Side Street Strutters
Since 1983, the Side Street Strutters have captured the excitement, vitality, and spontaneity of JAZZ-America's musical heritage! The ensemble has brought to the stage an exciting, entertaining and educational show experience which has been enjoyed by audiences in Theaters and Performing Arts Centers throughout the United States, Canada, Mexico and Europe. This is no ordinary Dixieland band. Old traditional favorites are stunningly
reworked into exciting new entities thanks to the individual artistry of each
performer and the brilliant arranging skills of NEA/Lila Wallace award
recipient, Joey Sellers. The Strutters' vast repertoire encompasses over half a
century of jazz styles from the early New Orleans Dixieland and Blues sounds of
Louis Armstrong, Jelly Roll Morton, and Fats Waller, the timeless classics of
Porter, Carmichael, and Gershwin, and the exciting swing sounds from the
libraries of Benny Goodman, Duke Ellington, Count Basie, and others. The
ensemble's entertaining show style presentation also includes colorful costumes,
a stage set, tap dancing, vocal selections, novelty numbers, and the use of rare
and unusual musical instruments. In addition to exciting musical arrangements which showcase the extraordinary talents of each performer, the Strutter's entertaining show style presentation also includes colorful costumes, tap dancing, vocal selections, novelty numbers, and the use of rare and unusual musical instruments.
