Tin Roof Tango
After eighteen years, a couple of name changes, three successful recordings and over 1000 performances, Tin Roof Tango continues to excite audiences with their trademark high energy acoustic fusion sound while exploring new musical vistas. At their first performance, the band (then under the name Instant Irish) was performing exclusively Celtic music. Bandleader Mark Shelton soon added traditional American tunes to their repertoire of Irish music. The band produced its first recording in 1990. Within months the recording, Spring Dance joined the North Star Music catalog. In 1992 the record label released the highly successful, An American Christmas selling in excess of 60,000 copies and receiving critical acclaim. As the repertoire changed, so has the group's moniker, and in 1994 the band took on its current name, Tin Roof Tango. Take five talented musicians, add over twenty five acoustic instruments and music from six continents, sprinkle on a bit of dance and a few corny jokes, and you have the recipe for Tin Roof Tango's Big Acoustic World Show. Featuring selections from South America, Africa, Australia, and the Orient, this ensemble entertains with music ranging from an Irish jig played on the banjo to a Bolivian melody that wafts from the kena. With a generous helping of American and Celtic music, Tin Roof Tango pours on Old Time fiddling, Cajun dance tunes, intense bluegrass, and Jazz ...all with that trademark Tin Roof Tango high energy, acoustic fusion sound. "It's a pretty quirky concept," remarks leader Mark Shelton. Indeed, quirky
and unique might come to mind as the five musicians strum, strike, blow, scrape,
bow, pluck, and shake an assortment of more than two dozen instruments. The
variety extends to the vocals as the audience is treated to songs in English,
Spanish, Yoruba (W. Africa), Japanese, and Cajun French. Video Clips (Windows Media Format): Video DVD (DVD Disc ISO image in a Zip file): Audio Samples (MP3 Format): |
